We are pleased that another major Czech news portal, iDNES.cz, has taken notice of us. In the article “We have reduced the size of hydroponic gardens, now they make sense for schools,” the editors focus on how our technology is developing, why it makes sense for a wide range of users, and where modern hydroponics is heading today in Czechia and around the world.
From large containers to the small Urbi. farm
Our story began with large hydroponic farms in shipping containers, which allow thousands of plants to be grown each month. The first of these was installed in Prague’s Manifest, where it quickly became apparent that hydroponics can work very well in cities.
However, demand soon began to come from restaurants, supermarkets, and companies that needed smaller, more affordable, and simpler farms. This led to the development of a new generation of products.
“We had to create our own Škoda Fabia – an affordable hydroponic farm that anyone can handle,” says founder Dmitrij Lipovskij.
This is how the Urbi. farm was created.
Urbi.: a modern hydroponic farm for everyone
Urbi. is a compact indoor farm that produces up to 100 pieces of vegetables every few weeks in an area of just three square meters. Whether it’s:
- salads,
- microgreens,
- herbs,
- or specialties such as marigold, mizuna, amaranth, or wasabino.
Our main goal was to make the technology:
- affordable,
- intuitive,
- easy to install,
- suitable for restaurants, schools, and canteens.
This reduced the price of the farm from the original CZK 500,000 to around CZK 180,000, which opened the door to completely new segments.
Schools and kindergartens as a new key segment
One of the most surprising trends highlighted by iDNES.cz is the interest shown by kindergartens and elementary schools.
Children can grow vegetables themselves, observe the entire growth cycle, and learn about ecology and responsibility in a practical way.
This educational impact has become so strong that we plan to install 150 to 200 Urbi. farms by 2027, with a significant portion going to schools.
Hydroponics saves water and time
iDNES.cz also points out the main advantage of hydroponics: plants grow faster, healthier, and with less water consumption, which is recycled in the system.
This makes hydroponics an ideal choice not only for companies and schools, but also for regions where fresh vegetables are difficult to obtain or expensive.
Successful projects in Czechia and abroad
In addition to more than 30 Urbi farm installations in 2024, we are also building projects abroad:
- USA
- Italy
- Netherlands
- Seychelles, where a hybrid model was created: hotels have their own Urbi farm and also use a large central hydroponic farm as a source of additional production.
This model also works in Prague – and confirms that hydroponic farms can be scaled according to customer needs.
Technology that pays off
GreeenTech bases its business not only on the sale of technology, but also on high-quality service and the supply of suitable substrates, fertilizers, and seeds.
Founder Dmitrij Lipovskij states in an interview for iDNES.cz that:
- the company has a turnover of around CZK 5 million,
- is operating in the black,
- and no further development subsidies are needed.
This only confirms that hydroponics has a firm place in the future of sustainable cultivation.
We are glad that they noticed us
We would like to thank iDNES.cz for their interest in the story of GreeenTech and the future of hydroponics. We are continuing to do what we do best – creating technologies that enable tastier, more sustainable, and smarter cultivation.
